About 50 million Australians are using alternative social networking platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, according to research by the Australian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
But despite a growing interest in social media for business purposes, the role of these platforms in the economy is still a topic of debate, according, to research conducted by the ACCC.
It found that social media accounts are primarily used by people who are not connected to the wider Australian economy.
